Seaview Artist's Gallery

Seaview Gallery 2012

This gallery is by far one of my favorites and is located at Moffat Beach at the Sunshine Coast. Why? .Because the atmosphere is warm and inviting and the artists are friendly and insightful people. There are 15 artists in this gallery who each rent a space for their work. They often rotate their work around every couple of months to give each other a new space to work with. The artist's have some issues with the small amount of space they  have to display their work. It becomes very compacted together and their isn't much room for viewers to stand back to look at the works. The artists have to be considerate to each other’s work whilst displaying their own. They make certain that there is diversity of style among their artwork. This occurs so that each artist has a fair chance of selling their art pieces to the public. While I walked through the gallery I met an artist by the name of Rich Oxley who I thought had fantastic work and I would consider buying for myself. His art pieces are made from an image he took himself and digitally manipulated to become art. I found his work to be very powerful and I liked how it made the audience look beyond the detail of an image. I stood in front of Rich Oxley’s work for a lengthy amount of time to take in his interpretation of an image. As i was standing there i was approached by the artist himself who was really enthusiastic about his collection of work. I was impressed by his process and his passion to create more artworks and explore different mediums.

In a gallery which is known to obtain more traditional paintings, an artist by the name of Raelean Hall really was a breath of fresh air. With her semi abstract paintings filled with vivid colours that captures your attention ,Hall’s work was mesmerising!.Such an exquisite array of ocean colours that really fitted the environment in which the artwork is displayed. Her interpretation of an image is something I have yet seen before. I really liked how she had abstract swirls that represented the ocean over a detailed image of two swimmers.

Sue Needham paintings were also fascinating. Needham does some wonderful innovative and creative abstracts of landscapes, seascapes and forests. The work called Goldern Australia looks indigenous at first. Having such earthy colours and dotted areas in her paintings similar to those of indigenous works Needhan herself is not indigenous and her work doesn't have any indigenous related concepts. I really liked the use of colour, the line work and the abstract feel she used throughout her works.I think Sue Needham’s approach to landscapes is refreshing and exhilarating to see at the Sunshine Coast.I think her style is captivating and i myself would love to hang this work in my home.

There was so many artworks at the Seaview gallery that I really enjoyed and was completely immersed by.My grandma has painted alongside some of the artists in this gallery so I am familiar with their style of work and the meanings behind their work. After many years of visiting this gallery I have noticed a huge change in the artworks displayed there. Originally it was a very traditional gallery, having mainly landscapes and seascapes. Now I find that there is a huge range of styles and mediums which they are really embracing. There is also much more range of subject matter as opposed to the traditional style of artwork years ago. I was very impressed with this gallery and would encourage everyone to take the time to wonder through it.
